Dawn-of-the-Dead-2004-Zombie-Horde

Zombies or "them" are deceased people who have been resurrected by a mysterious phenomenon. They serve as the main antagonists of Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead.

Infection[]

A human becomes a zombie due to an unknown phenomenon that causes illness, death, and reactivation of the brain. Once a person dies, it will only take a matter of minutes for the corpse to reanimate. The cause for the phenomenon is unknown, but characters speculate that it is caused by an unknown pathogen, divine punishment, or that there is simply "no more room in hell."

While bites from zombies are more consistent, a scratch from a zombie can infect a victim as well. The infection can also be inherited by a baby in womb from its mother, such as the zombie baby born of zombified Luda. It is unknown if a baby zombie can grow like human or not.

Abilities[]

Unlike the original and trioxin versions, these zombies are fast and very aggressive. They seem to not have any intelligence left, shown by the zombified security guard's lack of ability to get up from fountain even through it's shallow. Zombies slowly decompose over time, their skin becoming visibly rotten, yet, surprisingly, they can still run and retain their aggressiveness even as their bodies rot away. If the zombie is beheaded (but their brain aren't damaged), its head can remain alive as seen in movie's end credits.

Behavior[]

DD2004 Zombies horde

Horde of zombies tries to break into the main characters' armored cars.

Like Romero's zombies, this version of zombies retain vague impulses derived from former living behavior. For instance, zombies often return to specific locations they frequented when alive (Ana's neighborhood, shopping mall, Andy's gun store). Lacking immediate victims to hunt, zombies will mindlessly walk around and will be an easy target for snipers, but if they see any humans, they will aggressively run at the target until the target is dead or they lose sight of them.

Weaknesses[]

Like original zombies, their only weakness is their head. If their brain takes heavy damage, the zombie will be surely dead.
