Dr. Matthew Logan is a survivor of the undead apocalypse.
Biography[]
About a year after the zombie outbreak, Logan is one of the remnants of the US military hiding out with several others in the Seminole Storage Facility while zombies overrun the surface world. Logan wants the dead to be civilized and just as equal as the living since he believes this is how they will survive, while Captain Henry Rhodes believed it should be the opposite where they just kill all the living and re-locate to another shelter. Logan claims that there are too many zombies against Rhodes' diminishing supply of gunfire and bullets to go with that plan.
Logan experiments several captured zombie specimens. While he vivisects some, he believes that domestication is the best solution, which he is successful in with the zombie Bub while all his other specimens were not capable of accepting Logan's approach towards them. When the specimens refuse processed meat, Logan begins to use human meat to domesticate them. Logan was able to teach Bub how to use a telephone, say "Hello Aunt Alicia", shave, read a book, listen to music and shooting a gun. Logan teaching Bub to shoot a gun cannot be considered necessary to making Bub behave since gun shooting is violent although Logan may have shown him this to learn why gun shooting is dangerous towards zombies like him.
When Rhodes and the others discover that Logan is using Miller and Johnson's remains to try and train Bub, Rhodes drags Logan into the refrigerator used to store human meat and shoots and kills a pleading Logan in cold blood. It can be assumed that since Logan wasn't shot in the head he eventually turned.
Personality[]
As with other survivors in Seminole Storage Facility, Logan had since on the edge in the face of worsening zombie apocalypse as reflected through his recorded lab notes. In his mania, he believes he can teach the zombies good manners thus obsessively attempted to train some including Bub with varying degree of success. Unfortunately, at the height of his success, his moral compass apparently compromised as he was not above providing remains of Rhodes' men to reward his trained zombies, leading to his downfall and dooming his work.
