Firearms are arguably among best options to deal zombies as they enable the user to kill them from distance provided that they know how to properly use and maintenance them and mindful with their respective ammunition in their disposal. Caution must be taken in using them considering firearms are also loud (suppressors limited this problem to a limited degree contrary to what Hollywood movies showed), require time to reload, and are inaccurate in the hands of an inexperienced user.
In Romero's Living Dead series, a recurring problem revolving firearms usage among survivors is the knowledge pertaining proper ways to use them being no longer as widespread as pre-zombie apocalypse era; several characters displayed varying degree of difficulties in dispatching a single zombie regardless whether they familiar with the fact that they can only be killed via. headshot and more than often waste too much ammo as a result. The infamous instance of this could be seen in Land of the Dead where militia group who assigned at Fiddler's Green often waste the entire gun magazine just to kill one zombie during its downfall as neither them nor their employers took the importance of marksmanship training and other proper investment seriously.
