Fiddler's Green is a main setting of Land of the Dead, the fourth installment of Romero saga.
Overview[]
Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the city was, now called the Pittsburgh-outpost, a safe place for the living with Fiddler's Green established as a luxurious safe haven for the wealthy, whilst the poor are left to fend for themselves outside its walls (similar to The Castle of Prospero from Edgar Allan Poe's "Masque of the Red Death"). Two sides of the outpost were bordered by rivers while the rest being an electrified fence guarded by a militia founded to protect it from threats. Paul Kaufman, the city's ruthless plutocratic ruler, controlled all forms of commerce within its protected zone.
In order to provide the city with food and medical supplies its citizens can no longer safely acquire themselves ever since the dawn of zombie apocalypse, a team led by Riley Denbo was dispatched to scavenge the no-man's-land of barren countryside and dilapidated suburban towns long deserted by living humans but overrun with legions of zombies. An APC of Riley's design, Dead Reckoning, was created for such purpose.
Despite its seemingly perfect image, the hubris of outposts governing officials had sealed its fate since its foundation; no officials took the investment of the city's militia along with its members' capacity in marksmanship and general combat training into consideration, not even at the slightest. Predictably, when Big Daddy and his zombie army attack the outpost, the soldiers often waste the entire gun magazine just to kill one zombie as they don't seem to learn how to aim properly to kill each zombie with single precision shot. Furthermore, their reliance on firearms also make them never try to utilize any forms of melee weaponry to defense themselves in close-quarter combat situation. To make matter worse, lack of extra fortification over riverside zones provided zombies the way to easily enter its borders en masse with their newfound ability to walk safely underwater, effectively turned its electrified fence into a wall to trap them and the humans inside.
Following the rich and corrupt officials’ grisly end at hands of Big Daddy's zombie army who also spared most of the poor who unfortunate to be in their destructive path of vengeance, Mulligan, the leader of citizens who were oppressed by Kaufman's tyranny, set out to rebuild the outpost into a better place that it was always meant to be.
