After receiving a group of survivors in a delivery truck from the overrun Fort Pastor, Kenneth goes up on the roof to tell Andy that there is no help coming. In response, Andy writes on another piece of cardboard, "So what's the bad news?", bringing a smile to Kenneth's face.

Over the coming days, Kenneth and Andy form a friendship with the former going up onto the roof to "talk" to him via writing messages on dry erase boards and cardboard, respectively.

As the mall group begins reinforcing two shuttle buses from the parking garage for their escape, Kenneth insists that they take Andy with them. as he is starving. They strap food and a walkie-talkie onto Chips and lower him into the parking lot; Chips is able to safely travel through the hordes as the zombies have no interest in him. Chips gets into Andy's store safely, but a zombie follows through the dog door and bites Andy. Nicole, who is fond of Chips, crashes a delivery truck into the gun store, where she is trapped by the zombified Andy. Kenneth, Michael, Tucker, Terry, and C.J. reach the gun store via the sewers and rescue Nicole and Chips, with Kenneth killing Andy in the process.[1]

Personality[]

Survivors never get to talk to Andy face-to-face, the reason being him stranded in his gun store. However, he films a documentary of his life inside the store, which can be seen on the DVD's extras.

Andy is a likable and optimistic man in his forties, who doesn't seem to be worrying about the apocalypse too much even though he lost his family to it. However, he gets rather depressed due to his loneliness and starts to lose his sanity, resulting to alcoholism and eating his own pet fish.
